5 motivational quotes to get you promoted

Need an extra helping hand to get your next promotion? We've compiled our favourite 5 quotes to inspire you to reach the next step in your career journey.

Let's go get that promotion!

"People don't get promoted for doing their jobs really well. They get promoted by demonstrating their potential to do more."

Tara Jaye Frank - career consultant

You'll have been hired for the role you're currently in because of your ability to meet expectations of the role. To get to the next level, prove that you can go above and beyond your current role's potential.

However, be careful not to step on any toes in your efforts to surpass expectations as this may rub people up the wrong way.

"If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door."

Milton Berle - American comedian & actor

You can't expect to get a promotion by waiting around for it. Go build that door!

Create opportunities if they don't present themselves to you, and actively seek out ways in which you can prove your potential to your boss or manager.

"You get in life what you have the courage to ask for."

Oprah Winfrey - American talk show host

As the saying goes... 'You don't ask, you don't get'. This can apply to getting a promotion too. If you feel that it's the right thing to do, sit down with your manager, and express to them why you feel that you deserve to move onto the next step.

As vulnerable as this can make you feel, you never know what response you may get back. Opening up the lines of communication with your boss can prove your aspirations to achieve even more and will demonstrate your initiative.

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."

Thomas A. Edison - inventor of the lightbulb

This one is all about keeping faith and the value of patience. If you've been stuck in a role for a while now, it can feel disheartening to not have achieved a promotion yet. Keep trying, and have faith that you'll be promoted at the right time.

Don't give up!

"Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom."

General George Patton - U.S. Army General

Failure is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of. Be bold in the face of mistakes, take risks that will land you with more opportunities, and bounce back as high as you can after hitting rock bottom.

What if nothing seems to be working?

Consider whether moving out of the company you're working in is an option for you if you don't feel appreciated in your current role. Progressing up the career ladder within another company may actually increase your salary and give you more room to negotiate your wants and needs in a new contract, leading to increased happiness at work.
