The impact of Covid-19 has hit retail jobs particularly hard. In light of Debenhams' recent liquidation, where 25,000 jobs are at risk, now is a time when many in retail may be considering a career change and be wondering where to begin.

If this is you, then there are lots of options. We've compiled a list of six job roles where transferable skills gained from a career in retail could be used to help you get started, but there are many more options to be found via our job discovery tool at Sort.

E-Commerce Manager

E-Commerce Managers manage the sale and promotion of products and services on the internet. Transferable skills gained from retail experience like business management and the ability to use your initiative can easily be applied to this role.

Salary: £25k - £65k

Hour: 39 - 41 per week

Sales Manager

Sales Managers organise, coach and lead teams of sales representatives to work towards agreed targets. Transferable skills gained from retail experience that can be applied to this role include excellent sales & negotiating skills, communication & 'people' skills, and good planning and organisational skills.

Salary: £22k - £70k

Hours: 38 - 40 per week

Events Manager

Events managers organise and run promotional, business and social events. Transferable skills gained from retail such as problem-solving, good negotiation, and 'people' skills can easily be applied to this role.

Salary: £17k - £80k

Hours: 37 - 39 per week

Hotel Manager

Hotel managers are in charge of the day-to-day running of a hotel. Use transferable skills from retail such as customer service skills, patience in stressful situations, and attention to detail.

Salary: £20k - £60k

Hours: 40 - 42 per week

Human Resources Assistant

Human Resources (HR) assistants provide support to the HR team in a company or organisation. Transferable skills from retail can be used for this role, such as customer service, verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.

Salary: £15k - £22k

Hours: 37 - 39 per week

CRM Manager

CRM managers look after customer databases and communications systems for organisations. Working in the sales department of a company can help you learn the ropes for this IT-based role, as there are no set requirements.

Salary: £25k - £57k

Hours: 37 - 42 per week
