Careers in Tech are often portrayed as working for major brands, high paying, and your best chance at buying your own private jet. It’s not just what you see on TikTok though - there’s a lot more to it. Today we’re going to break down what jobs working in Technology really look like, and help you decide if Tech is an industry that would suit you.
Roles in Tech vary hugely, and the phrase ‘Tech’ itself usually refers more to ‘Information Technology’, and then a variety of smaller industries - namely computing, engineering, software, and manufacturing. There certainly are the big roles at the likes of Apple and Google, but you’re more likely to see roles working in anything from the NHS to as a Data Scientist right through to Cyber Security Officer for the Police.
Thinking of taking your first steps into Tech? You’re not the only one. Technology in its various guises takes up around 9% of the UK workforce. It’s also a rapidly growing industry - the number of advertised roles has increased 42% pre-pandemic.
